SURFERS! I NEED YOUR ADVICE!?

Hi, I have decided to try to learn to surf.. I’m very athletic, and usually when it comes to outdoor activities ( no matter what it is ) , i will get the hang of it very quick and easy.

But what about when it comes to surfing? I hear that the short boards are hard to ride if you are a beginner…. But when it came to Snow boarding, i got it First try, and the mountain didn’t have a bunny slope, only the hard slope. So i Had to go down that, made like 2 mistakes but did not EAT it. Also when it came to skate boarding, it was pretty easy… First Ollie in 2 days…. soon I was kick flipping and 360 flipping in about 1 month….
Any ways… the first question is that DOES Skateboarding and snowboarding and waveboarding (the one with 2 wheels, you have to wiggle your hips back and forth to move) affect anyway you surf. ( LIKE if i did it WOULD it make surfing easier?

the only similarity between snowboarding and skateboarding and surfing is balance. with the waveboard, it actually does feel like the motion when you carve a wave while surfing. but i would recommend practicing on that once you get better at surfing. but as i said before, it is good that you have already mastered balance but you also have to be comfortable in the ocean and know how to get past the break, paddle through waves, etc. there is a completely different element to surfing that throws many people off: water. all the other sports you mentioned are on land. to be a good surfer you must be a good swimmer in the ocean, not just a good swimmer in a pool.

i would advise that you dont go in the water as a beginner with very high expectations, because you most likely will be disappointed that you arent getting it right away. surfing takes a lot of practice to completely get the hang of it. i would also recommend working on your arm strength but it is good that you are an overall athletic person.
