I have 03 Silverado 4×4, when ever a bump / rough road that is sometimes a grinding noise?
03 chevy with the power button 4WD selector. This sounds like grinding gears in the front end. It is very intermitant. If I got to blow, hole, rough road that might get a grind sound. no speed important. 2 mph or 60 mph. I could go 10 feet and get the noise or go 100 miles before they do it again. Floor the brakes to slow and stop just before it stop. My mechanic took it to work to locate it. Before he arrived at work happened to him. With someone who travels and would not listning. I can not make it happen every time I have a mechanic with me and he has his electronic head phones to locate noise. This has been going on for almost a year. I would be very grateful if someone could help me. Thanks in advance.
believe it or not there is a Chevy newsletter to describe this condition, I have repaired many of them and the customers came in saying that noise is in the front-rear-right-left-up-down. never sure. Correction! Remove the drive shaft and pull strip axis of separation. lubricant, replace it. do it again when the noise comes back in 6-12 months. the spline are up. when u hit a bump in and out her supposed .. it binds. the transfer of noise through the shaft.
