The crank arm of a bicycle pedal is 16.5 cm long. If a person weighing 53 kg puts all of their weight on one pedal, how much torque is developed if a) the crank is horizontal ( on an x & y plane angle 90 degrees) b) if the crank is almost vertical ( angle 15 degrees from y axis)
To find torque, multiply the force applied by the distance from center to position of application. Only take the component of the force which is perpendicular to this distance.

Kiran Chetry Welcomes a Baby Boy
The CNN American Morning News co-anchor Kiran Chetry, and her husband, Chris Knowles are the new parents of a baby boy. Baby Christopher was born April 17 at 10:45 p.m and was 7 lbs. Chetry announced her pregnancy back in October to People magazine.
The birth announcement came straight from Chetry, because she was just too thrilled to sleep. “Dad and baby are sleeping soundly,” she said. “Mom’s too excited to get any shut eye.” Christopher, who “looks so much like Daddy,” says Chetry, joins big sister Maya Rose, who turned two this year. Congratulations on your bundle of news Chetry!
