Can you just lightly sand paneling or do you need to sand and put kilz on it, or just kilz?
I want to paint wall of paneling, but I want the easiest way. I am not going to fill in the grooves in some cases.-to kilz or sand or both?

If its previously painted, just paint right over top.
if its not (and its that kind that looks like wood grain, but its fake) :
1) Prime it with water based primer tinted to the desired color (unless the desired color is pure white or near pure white in which case tinting is unneeded – just use the can right off the shelf.)
My personal expert product of choice is “Gripper”. – very sticky and excellent hiding capabilities.
2) topcoat it with whatever you want – although usually a wood-look material is topcoated with satin or semigloss.
The tenacity inherent in gripper will override any need for sanding. Honest. Any experienced painter will tell you that Gripper is a bi@ch to get off in the shower after work – a testament that that sucker sticks well. Sanding is lame.
