Metal Pedal
What is a good metal pverdrive pedal to use with a solid state amp?

I love the sound of an overdrive pedal used in metal songs by kirk hammett, zakk wylde, and many others, but i dont have the money for a tube amp, and i know many pedals dont sound as good on solid state.

I’d recommend the ProCo Rat distortion, or for a less money with no loss of sound, the Ibanez DS-7. Both are saturated metal distortions. Most of “overdrive” pedals are intended to push an already-overdriven tube amp further into saturation. For example, I used to own an Ibanez Tubescreamer and it was absolutely useless. It had very little gain and you couldn’t get any crunch or liveliness out of it; it was a very flat, dead, sterile sound. Unfortunately, the Zakk Wylde overdrive (from MXR I think) is like that; it’s designed to push a tube amp.
But the Rat and the DS-7 both have a great metal tone; lots of warm, rich drive with some growl to them. I recommend them wholeheartedly.
Hope this helped.
