power kiting…getting started?
I want to get started with power kiting, i messed around with a friends once, but am sure if i got one i would find all the lines, knots etc v. confusing! (he lives abroad so he cant help!). What size should i get to start (im 9stone), and where would i learn the basics? any books/websites etc? Also whats the difference between a 2 and 4 line? thanks!
Don’t let the lines and knots put you off, if you choose a good stockist, they should be able to help you with those.
I’d start with a 1.5 metre, two Line Kite just so you get a feel for flying, and the pull you will get from it.
The difference between two and four lines is simply four line kites have brakes!!
Basically you get two lines per handle, the top lines are the controlling ones (so you’d pull left for left, right for right) and if you want to bring the kite down without slamming it onto the ground, you simply point the handles towards the kite, this pulls the bottom lines towards you and takes the shape out of the kite.
The main principle to remember when flying, you fly within a 180 degree arc this is wind window!
