Samburu Intrepids Tented Camp Samburu National Reserve Kenya
Samburu Intrepids Camp Club Samburu is renowned as a pioneer of luxury tented camp in one of the Africa last truly great wilderness areas. Samburu Intrepids Camp is a luxury safari tented camp in the midst of the rugged and savagely beautiful semi arid desert of northern Kenya, located in the Samburu National Reserve on the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River; the Samburu Intrepids offers unique game viewing in its immediate surroundings.
Located 345 kilometers north of Nairobi, the journey to the Samburu Intrepid Camp involves a 50-minute flight to the Samburu airstrip followed by a 20-minute drive through the reserve. Samburu Intrepids Club 27 en suite tents and palm thatched main areas are set on stilts to catch the breezes, Like Mara Intrepids; its Adventurers Club offers children an outstanding interactive safari experience. Activities include guided nature walks, butterfly identification, plaster-casting animal prints, traditional singing, dancing and craftwork sessions, and learning Maasai skills including spear throwing, archery and fire-building.
Teenage guests revel in the star-gazing and astronomy, first-aid and survival sessions, orienteering, guided bush walks, game drives and camel rides of the Young Rangers Club. Visiting the Samburu village of Kiltamany is a particularly worthwhile experience. They can step inside a mud hut, try to pump water, and see the school that was set up with a portion of guests’ fees. Between times, cool off and relax by the pool.
Samburu Intrepids enjoys a unique perspective of one of Africa’s most celebrated wildernesses. The spacious tents boast the very latest in luxury camping, with soft four-poster beds, handsome mahogany closets, writing desks, and en suite bathrooms with steaming hot showers. The bathrooms also offer twin washbasins, flush toilets, and sockets for shavers and battery charging. The main dining room has a seating capacity of 60, and opens onto an outdoor dining terrace, where buffet breakfasts and lunches are served overlooking the river.

Samburu Intrepids Club is a relaxed a comfortable lodge sitting above the Uaso Nyiro River. The Samburu National Reserve itself is wonderful, with so many wildlife species unique to Samburu and the fact that it is not too crowded. The rooms are permanent tents sitting on platforms above the river bank; the rooms are cool, shaded by large trees and the beds are comfortable with ceiling fans to take the edge of the afternoon heat. The staff at the intrepid are cheerful, helpful, informative and genuinely friendly addressing you by name in the majority of instances; you are made to feel very welcome. the evening talks, by local Samburu warriors came to life with their knowledge and enthusiasm.
In addition to the morning and evening game drives you could take a guided walk with one of the Samburu warriors which opened a new dimension to a better understanding the eco system that makes up the park. Samburu Intrepids was a wonderful tented camp, the reception, bar, dining lodge is a beautiful timber framed open sided pavilion overlooking the river. It really fills like a special place in the middle of the wild. The tents themselves are very nice with firm, comfy beds, nice linens, great bathroom. This is a lodge that goes out of its way to give you a warm welcome and to ensure that you leave with fond memories.

Are there any good sites for tent camping along the Appalachian Trail in Shenandoah National Park?
I'm planning a trip by section Shenandoah National Park in September / October. I studied the maps and guidebook SNP. Any information or suggestions you can offer regarding with campsites near the track – especially in Southern and Central Districts – would be appreciated. Since the park can be crowded in the fall, I would like to avoid shelters / cabins, especially on weekends. In the AT guide books, the track log to mention camping, ballooning sites, but the book in the SNP Gide rarely mentioned none. I am familiar with the camping conditions and restrictions (the park has a large booklet), but I imagine those who have the way they have best suggestions on where to find very few people places along the AT field. Along the path length Accommodation various shelters and campsites are available for hikers. The shelters, often called sheds, structures are generally open three walls with a wooden floor. Some shelters are much more complex in structure, however, most opposite to the shape function is the focus on its construction. The shelters are spaced less than a day's walk away, most often near a water source and a latrine. They generally have spaces for tent sites in the surroundings. It is recommended always carry a tent for the night when on the road, because the shelters can be filled to capacity. These shelters are usually well maintained by local volunteers and kept in good condition, but despite that mice and other rodents often make their homes inside or nearby. Almost all shelters have one or more carriers food pre-hung (generally consisting of a nylon cord with a short backward tuna can suspended halfway down its length) for hikers food bags hang on. In the jargon of these hikers are sometimes called "mouse trapezes, and although usually avoid foods that mice reach hung, they are by no means foolproof. Another option is to hang a food from a tree branch or between two trees, using the standard bear bagging method, which is recommended to have at home.
