Matchbox vs. Hot Wheels
Matchbox cars were first created in England in 1952. While working for Lesney Products, owned by Leslie Smith and Rodney Smith (no relation) pitcher Jack Odell die-created the first Matchbox car. It was a brass steamroller made small enough to fit in a matchbox at the request of his daughter. She wanted to take something to school to show and explain the school rules, but ordered that all items had to fit in a matchbox. The first line of Matchbox cars was sold by the company in 1953 Lesney road # 1 roller, dumper # 2 and # 3 Cement mixer. New cars were added to the line existing each year until the line reached 75. (The line was increased to 100 in 2008, but let's stick to the story for now.)
In 1967 Mattel, known for its most popular toys, Barbie, began developing his own line of toy cars, die cast. This line, called Hot Wheels, left with their first series in 1968 with 16 cars. When sales were ten times more than expected, added 24 cars to line 1969. Sales continued to cause the line to grow to 73 cars in 1970 and 108 in 1971. With all this growth, Lesney Matchbox cars by the company struggled to keep pace. In 1982 the line was sold to Matchbox cars Universal Toys who later sold it in 1991 to the well-known Tyco. During the Matchbox and Hot Wheels are the only two significant competitors in the car saga Cast toys and therefore still seen as rivals. Ironically, in 1996, Mattel bought the product line of Tyco Matchbox. Hot Wheels and Matchbox now they should be by the same company, but continue to live as two lines of toy cars.
Having grown up with dozens of toy cars as a child, and with two small children with their own vehicles, have done much research (playing) both with Hot Wheels, Matchbox and brands. In recent years, the line Hot Wheels has obviously become the favorite of many collectors and children, and some even consider Matchbox cars to be of lower quality and design. In fact, entering at any store that sells cars and compare the selection of Hot Wheels to Matchbox. In the way of cars, Hot Wheels shows almost always from the number of Matchbox ten to one easily. However, a point that I made in buying a car for my children is the drastic difference in style between the two lines. The vast majority Hot Wheels Car, not based on or painted like real cars. Many of them are variations of existing cars or new creations together. In fact, I personally I have Hot Wheels few in my collection that are shopping carts with wheels or toilets. Other Hot Wheels cars are often painted with a lot of graphic details and text. By Matchbox Moreover, it is entirely "normal" cars. Most vehicles in its line are the ones you're likely to see on the street. The models are one or two tones painted, rarely with graphics or text added. One advantage of this is that you are more likely to find police cars, fire trucks, cranes, SUVs etc, matchbox with Hot Wheels line.
Matchbox cars were the beginning. Hot Wheels brought High Quality and huge sales. Now, between the two lines of cars, you can find any type of vehicle imaginable custom or real. Cast cars have been a huge part in life and many children are becoming the great kingdom of collectors. (One might wonder if these two groups are the same!) I've heard some argue that cast cars are now primarily for collectors and are a thing of the past, such as children's toys. I can only respond by saying that my two children are too more fun to play with 100 + cars than they do buying and watching. I must also admit that I'm glad I have two children so that I can still play with cars diecast toy in the middle ages!
