Friendly All Cedar
Gay friendly things to do/see/visit/stay in Dallas?
Hello, my gf and I are planning a trip down to Dallas at the end of May and wanted some suggestions on things to do. We have both been there many times, but this time wanted to experience the artsy/urban/modern part. We are a lesbian couple and wanted some new ideas besides Cedar Springs. We love museums, both of us are in to rock/punk, both are pretty eclectic, and in to trying new things. I’m looking for suggestions on ANYTHING– where to stay/ where to eat/ what do do/ where to go/ where to party..any hole in the wall/dive joints to high priced/elegant areas…anything, we are open for all. Thanks guys!!!
Try the McKinney Avenue Contemporary. They have a constantly changing line up of exhibits. The Women’s Museum has some good photo exhibits from time to time. The Dallas Arboretum has lots of pretty flowers to look at and a great view of White Rock Lake. The Nasher Sculpture Exhibit is good to see. The Meadows Museum at SMU has the largest collection of Spanish art in the US. Too bad you’re not visiting in June, that is when their Diego Rivera exhibit is.
For a bit of a funky bar go to the Grapevine. It’s got a great satellite jukebox, cheap drinks, funky decor and an awesome back patio. It’s a very mixed gay/straight/preppy/punk/unclassified type of place.
Since you want to get away from Cedar Springs try Exposition Park instead. The Meridian Room, Bar of Soap, Amsterdam Bar and Hollywood 5 & Dime are all worth a look-see. They’re all popular with the black-clad crowd. Lee Harvey’s is another bar/restaurant worth checking out.
