Big Tire

Big Tire
How big of a tire can I put on an 86 Full Size chevy without lift kit?

Chevy is 4×4. Full size. No lift. Would like a mud tire. I’ve read some tires are actually larger than advertised.

if your springs are in good shape (no sag) and you are running stock offset 15X8 rims then you should be able to run up to a 32/1150 mud tire with out a lift. (you could also run 31/1150)

you didn’t mention if it is a k10,k20 or k30. the above info is for a K10.

wider rims will create a problem with clearance with out a lift.

remember that larger tires will change your final drive ratio and cause you engine to run lower RPM’s. this will effect your engine’s performance.

on our 85 K 10 we replaced the rear springs with Rancho springs which gave us a lift of 2 1/2″ this allowed us to run 33/1250 goodyear mtr tires with no rubbing. we changed from 373 to 411 gears to remain in the stock rpm range (turbo diesel powered)

hope this helps
