what is best type of dog for our family? should we get a dog when we have two 14 yr old cats?

we recently have two cats, both 14, a female and male. the female has been sick and got better. we would like a dog soon. do you think we should get one?

i have 3 kids all under 13, the youngest 8. we have a pretty big backyard and house, and would like a pet that could run and play like at the beach, but could sit in the backyard for a day or sit on your lap.

my husband wants a golden retriver, but i and the kids rather a medium sized dog.
the other dog option is a yorkshire terrier.
what is your opinion in these 3 dog types or is there a better type you suggest?

I have owned a Cavalier before. But as beautiful as they are, they are not the most active dogs around. Great lapdogs though! Golden Retrievers are great dogs. They are a very popular breed, known for their friendly personalities.

The only breed on that list I would NOT recommend is the Yorkshire terrier. They tend to bark and become snappy. They can be hard to train and small size isn’t great around kids.

However, can I add another option to that list?? The Welsh Springer Spaniel. I would recommended this breed to any family that is looking for a medium sized, active and child friendly dog. I own one at the moment and he is Great Fun! Being a spaniel..he loves water.
